Introduction.
Welcome. In this series of articles we will be looking at upstream gates in canoe slalom. There are a few resources around the net for slalom technique, but I wanted to break down some of the elements of a canoe slalom run, and look into the concepts and rules I use to be good and efficient at paddling.
In these articles I want to focus more on boat positioning and boat movement (momentum) and less on how to do the strokes needed. If the boat is in the right place with the right movement, then often your own paddle technique comes naturally, but will cover stokes in another series or articles.

Part 1 - Entry into the up, concept of getting hips above the gateline.
Part 2 - Use of offside edge carve, the concept behind it and conserving momentum.
Part 3 - Recap of drills and additional drills to try.
+ any other areas I feel I want to cover and any other suggestions.
